Experience

Phil Kreuter, PT, a physical therapist with more then 20 years of experience working with amputees provides a comprehensive one on one physical therapy and gait training program for amputee patients of al all ages and physical ability levels. In addition to his experience with patients with limb loss Phil has had over 20 years of experience treating patients with orthopedic and sports injuries

By customizing a program that meets your specific needs Phil can assist patients in increasing there activity level, improve their ability to use their prosthesis effectively and efficiently and achieve an active, healthy lifestyle.

Phil’s expertise includes:

  • Basic Gait training for new amputees or less efficient ambulators
  • Advanced gait training for more experienced ambulators
  • Development of home exercise programs
  • Designing stretching, strengthening and cardiovascular exercises specific  to your needs
  • Running and Sports instruction

  
Phil has spent over 25 years in a variety of capacities working with athletes with disabilities. He served as a coach at the 1984, 1998, and 1992 Paralympic Games. In addition to coaching Phil has worked as an administrator for many local, regional and national sports events for athletes with disabilities. He has served on national and international committees and boards and currently is the President of the board of directors of the National Disability Sports Alliance. Phil has more than a 15 year relationship with ASPIRE, a not for profit organization that promotes healthy living for children with limb loss through exercise and sports participation. 

Phil has lectured locally and nationally about physical therapy and gait training for lower extremity amputees. He has spoken extensively about sports opportunities for people with physical disabilities. He has co-authored the manual, Exercise for the Lower Extremity Amputee and has written peer reviewed journal articles.

Phil earned his BS in adaptive physical education from Brooklyn College in 1980 and graduated with a BS in Physicla Therapy from downstate Medical center in 1984. He is currently the co-owner of Nassau Suffolk Physical Therapy in Syosset, New York and the Owner of Mobility Health Care Consulting, Inc.
